Weathered Time
I've always liked old wood. Not rotten wood. Just wood that's been outside for a while. Fence boards, barn siding, old gates. I just like the way wood looks after it's been out in the weather for a few years.
That's what this birdhouse reminded me of once it was finished. I had painted it blue-green, but the paint didn't completely cover the cedar. Some of the wood still showed through, and when it dried, the birdhouse looked like it had already been outside for a while.
I remember looking at it and wondering how long it would take a birdhouse left outside to naturally look that way. That's when Weathered Time came to mind.
This was the first birdhouse I ever gave a name to. I didn't know it then, but it also pretty much decided how I would name the ones that came after it. I don't usually have a name picked out when I start. I finish the birdhouse, and sooner or later a name comes to me.
With this one, it was pretty simple. It looked weathered before it had ever spent a day outside.
Weathered Time.
